Budget Paragliding

All of us have, at some point in our lives, dreamed of flying. As kids, some of us would try jump off our beds with an open umbrella, or flapping our arms up and down. Of course, none of that ever worked.

Man has, since the beginning of time, aspired to fly through the skies, with every failed invention quickly giving rise to another. We watched birds, which soared gracefully through the sky, and realized that birds would often glide calmly, without flapping their wings all the time.

Even with that knowledge, however, men have never managed to reach the sky, being forced to settle for romantic poems and paintings.

But then, one day, the creation of the very first airplane sparked hope, that we would finally reach the sky, and we did. However, our flight would not be nearly as graceful as a bird's until something else came about, something that would allow us to glide outside with just as much grace: Paragliding.

Budget Paragliding

How expensive is paragliding as a sport?

Many people ask: How expensive is paragliding as a sport? Is it cheap? Well, to answer that question, you need to understand what your goal is.
First, let's talk about becoming an independent pilot. Paragliding is an activity that is very dangerous to learn on your own. For those that try taking this route, broken limbs and complicated health issues is the unfortunate norm.
Before, this was the only way to learn the sport, but now the situation has changed. There are many schools all over the world in which you can train safely, without putting your life at risk being an independent pilot.

Paragliding is a dangerous sport - schools may be expensive, but they ensure safety, and health is priceless. In addition to that, the schools teach you the different terms, concepts, as well as the way of thinking and characteristics of being a pilot. You'll also find many like-minded friends who also wish to learn, and who could become precious flight companions.
So the first item in our expenditure - Training at a flight school. This is the cost of the main course and it is designed for an entire season. You will be flying on the school's equipment for the whole summer, for example, and the overall price is not too expensive.

Now, to become a free pilot - someone with the appropriate equipment, skills and knowledge to fly independently anywhere, taking any hill as a possible flight location, and enduring any change of wind or weather mid-flight with a cool head - it can be quite expensive. A good set of equipment can cost up to two thousand dollars.

The equipment you use can be old, cheap or even completely free. But what is the cost of brand-new paragliding equipment? Well, it depends on things like brand and manufacturer, but here is a general price list for the equipment set:
Dome - $700
Suspension System - $300
Reserve parachute - $200
Helmet - $500
Vario - $100
Shoes - $40
Backpack - $40
Coverall - $50
Radio - $80
GPS - $100

The list goes on, but if you are looking only for bare essentials, then you'll need the Dome, harnesses, the reserve parachute, and the helmet. The average price for these brand-new rests at about $1290.
Sounds expensive? Don't worry. It's not necessary to have your own flight gear right off the bet. Many places have rental gear that goes at about 100 dollars.
Imagine that you are going on a vacation to Bulgaria or India, and you spent upwards of 1000 dollars on tickets and instructors. 100 dollars for rent of really good equipment doesn't sound like much, does it? Rental sets are really good because, as a beginner, you will try to save as much money as possible if you buy a full gear set, and that can be dangerous. Even then, you will still spend about 700 dollars on equipment, and the normal training flights for one week will cost an average of 1200 dollars.
Once you become more experienced, and have your own set of flight equipment, that you can use to fly wherever you want, it's a good idea to start researching cheap but amazing places to fly at.

1. Medellin, Columbia

Medellin - one of the few cities in which you fall in love at first sight: the majestic mountains, a pleasant climate, friendly locals, as well as a unique culture - these are just some of the reasons to visit this place.
Due to the location at 1,495 meters above sea level, in a valley surrounded by high green mountains and proximity to the equator, there's all year-round warmth. Great weather promotes walking in the park, each of which has a unique design and individuality.
Medellin offers visitors a series of activities, including Paragliding - one of the most popular entertainment activities, largely thanks to incredibly low prices. For $40 you are offered a twenty-minute flight to the north of the city with great views of the surrounding mountains.
Most often, the pilots are of middle-class, and with normal brand equipment, which changes every few years. It often happens that a good pilot flies on their old equipment. The money in this business doesn't play a very key role. The main choice is to be a pilot, the choice to fly. The rest - minor issues, issues of comfort and quality (branded) equipment. This kit will cost an average of $2000 dollars.
If you already have the equipment and flying experience, you will not spend too much there. Simply go to the mountains (on the slopes) during summer summer. You'll live next to the slope and it will feel like summer all year-round. Nowhere can you find such a never-ending summer as you can in Colombia. There you can find slides for dynamic soaring. A Winch for a good pilot is not expensive - a good pilot catches the stream from the first climb of the route and manages to fly away.

2. Iquique, Chile

Iquique is, at least in my opinion, the only somewhat nice town on the northern coast. It is situated in a desert environment and exudes good energy. The beach, of course, is an important part of the environment.
However, the biggest tourist attraction is Paragliding jumping from the cliffs above the town. The winds are perfect for this activity as well as the views of the sandy shore and the beach. Due to the fact that outside the city there are no tall trees, you can land almost anywhere.
In addition, beaches that stretch for kilometers on end offer an extreme variety of options for a safe landing. In this region, which goes years without spilling a single drop of rain, the flight season never ends (on average, there are only 7 non-flying days per year). The best time season for the duration of the flight is from October to December.

3. Lima, Peru

Lima is located on the Pacific coast, but slightly above sea level. This is a fantastic place for paragliding. The cost of such activities goes at only about fifty dollars. At the same time, you don't have to fly alone, because there are many experienced instructors, that speak English very well.
In Lima, there is even a special Paragliding school, in which you can learn and prepare for your first flight. Here you can also order a high-quality video recording, to record the impressions of the place not only in your memory but also on the hard drive of your computer. There used to be a company in the Valle de Uco at Manzana Historico and on the road to Vallecitos, but I believe they are not in operation now because of the competition from the in city companies.

4. Lovcen, Montenegro

In Montenegro you can get a great opportunity and experience the wonderful feeling of flight if you use the services of the club paragliding and its experienced instructors. The price for flying is only about 40 dollars.
The magnificent landscapes (sea, forests, mountains, rivers and lakes) of the "country of mountains" Montenegro, are amazing, and definitely worthy of a bird's-eye view to admire them. The most favorite place for paragliding in Montenegro is Lovcen Mountain, shrouded in legends and mysteries. With an altitude of 1660 meters, Mount Lovcen offers a fabulous view of the treasure of Montenegro - Kotor Riviera.

5. Kopaonik, Serbia

Kopaonik, Serbia
Kopaonik, Serbia

In Kopaonik, you will fly in a tandem Paraglider that represents an aircraft which is designed for a pilot and a passenger. The tandem wing has a larger surface area and has a limited flight capability because of the safety of the passengers. The traveler is housed in an independent seat and connected to the pilot and the wing with a separate piece of equipment. The helmet and parachute are a necessary part of the equipment.
Take-off (running from the slope) is usually performed from Orlova rock and the flight goes through the valley towards Brzece. If weather conditions allow, it is also possible to tandem fly from Pancic Peak.
The length of the flight depends on weather conditions, it is cheap with a price of only about 40 dollars
