1. Pepsi Pools

This mountain biking trail has nothing to do with the beverage and everything to do with an awesome trail and scenery. It is considered an easy to intermediate bike trail, nestled in the foothills of the Outeniqua Mountains. On your bike you’ll get to experience technical trail sections, take in views of the forest, and even go for a swim in refreshing pools right by a cascading waterfall.

2. Cango Mountain Bike Trails

We’re looking to the Western Cape again, and with good reason, because this province is the mountain biking hub of South Africa. It is a home to almost half of all the mountain biking trails in South Africa! You can expect a whole lot from the Cango trails as they offer kids trails, beginner, intermediate, and advanced bike routes. With bike trails namedMagic Factory, Cool Runnings, Game Ranger, and 6 Shooters, this place is owned by real enthusiasts; they love their biking just as much as you do!

3. Goegap Nature Reserve If you want to experience a desert mountain bike trail, the Goegap Nature in the Northern Cape is exactly the trail you’re craving. This course will take you on semi-desert, sand, and some rocky terrain while getting to take in breath-taking views of rusty coloured plains and maybe some mountain zebra if you’re lucky. Goegap Nature Reserve makes for a 22km+ (13 miles+) route, but most enjoyable is getting to explore an undiscovered landscape.

4. Tsitsikamma/ Storms River Trail The word ‘Tsitsikamma’ is of ancient Khoi origins, meaning “place of abundant or sparkling water.” It is definitely a fitting description of a location that contains hidden beaches, lush rainforest, peaks, and gorges. The trail will take you on gravel road and plantation 4X4 track as well as river crossings.

5. Bergplaas MTB Route

Covering a distance of 18 – 80 kms, this trail is located near the town of Sedgefield. Test your endurance on the Farleigh Forest’s seemingly endless tracks that boast panoramic views of the rich green forest. Although it is lesser known, you are guaranteed of undisturbed hours of riding and a great place to end the day with a beer at Zucchini in Timberlake Village.   These are only but 5 of the many exceptional mountain biking trails in South Africa; it is simply begging to be explored! Do you have any tips?
